I have a real leather jacket.
Is it OK to admit that anymore? I don’t know.
It’s 20 years old AT LEAST and I remember buying it at Dillards on a weekday evening before I had dinner with friends.
That’s what a big deal it was to get a leather jacket back in the day.
And I loved wearing it.
The only problem now is that it is a different size than what I currently wear.
In other words, I grew out of it.
Back in the day when I purchased this gorgeous leather jacket, faux leather WAS available. I just remember it being stiff and looking FAKE.
But times have changed girls. You can buy beautiful faux leather items now. And this season, faux leather is making an appearance in every type of apparel you can think of – dresses, skirts, pants, shorts, jacket and coats.
And the faux fabric is such nice quality! It’s beautiful, buttery soft and has an overall luxe feel.
Take a look at these!
Faux Leather Toppers from Chicos
Nothing elevates an outfit like a topper and Chicos has some beautiful ones.
This is the Edge to Edge Faux Leather Topper. It’s available in black, brown and cadet olive and is an ONLINE Exclusive. I am wearing a size 3, but it’s a little big. These leather toppers do not come in half sizes, so if I sized down to a size 2 it would fit better.
I love the duster length of this topper and think it pairs perfectly with pants, jeans or over a dress.

Next is the Faux Leather Moto Jacket. I’m wearing it in black, but it also comes in brown and it is gorgeous! Same with the sizing. These run a little big, so size down. Except you might want to get your regular size if you are going to wear the jacket over a thick sweater.
Here’s what it looks like zipped up:

Leather Pants
There’s a story here. I never thought of myself as a leather pants person.
Not because of my age.
I just didn’t think with my size and shape they would be flattering.
And something about them always made me think of strippers. Or maybe that was leather chaps…I digress.
Anyhoo…One of my favorite midlife influencers, Suzy at Empty Nest Blessed, had on a pair in a recent Instagram post.
Suzy and I are totally different sizes and shapes.
But what caught my eye was the brand and the style she was wearing. These pants were NYDJ Marilyn Style Pants.
Well, what do you know. One of the best fitting pairs of jeans I own are NYDJ Marilyn Style Jeans. So on a whim one Friday night, I ordered a pair just like Suzy’s!
Denim Jacket | Buffalo Plaid Blouse (similar) | Belt | Leather Pants | Booties (similar)
These pants are great quality and it was fun to put them on for this picture.
My 14-year-old grandson couldn’t stop laughing when he saw me wear them.
My daughter said they made my butt look good.
And I received a lot of nice comments on Instagram.
But this particular pair don’t work for me for a couple of reasons.
Length – With high heeled booties the length is fine. But they are really long and I don’t know how one would hem them.
Rise – They are just too long in the crotch. And what I didn’t realize is that leather pants are slippery. So every time I moved, the crotch slipped lower and lower – even with a belt. Not flattering.
What I will say, if I were to try another pair of leather pants or leggings, I would definitely check out the NYDJ or Chicos brands. It’s like anything else, you just have to try some pieces and see what works for you.
So…do you own any leather pieces? Tell me in the comments!
I do not own any leather or faux leather. But now I think I’m going to try a topper and/or some pants!
Let me know what you get!
Bravo for trying the leather pants. I thought they looked amazing, but when they don’t fit right, that’s annoying (although I bet my mom could alter them, haha).
But you know what the slippery part is good for?? Pet hair doesn’t stick to it!! My favorite details about the faux leather.
XOXO

PS. The leather jacket story is exactly why I don’t buy into the idea that you should pay more for classic pieces because they last forever!! LOL!
