The theme for this month’s Ageless Style Link-up is Back to School style.
At 64, I’m a little past the back-to-school season of life and all that brings.
But when school starts in September, everything does seem to change, no matter what age you are.
Activities, like my Ladies Bible Study start a new semester.
My friends who have been traveling to see kids and grandkids are back home. That means lunches and dinners out.
And there just seems to be more of a routine.
I am carefully “cultivating my closet” using the Outfit Formulas Fall 2022 Capsule.
Here’s the perfect fall outfit for the Texas “faux fall” that includes pieces I can wear year round.
Fall Style from Chicos
I’m wearing Chico’s Embellished Blooms Pullover Top (Size 2) with the Brigitte 360 Pants in navy (Size 3).
This top is lightweight and cool and the lovely print can be worn year round.
The navy pants are fabulous. Pull on, also lightweight and with a beautiful drape.
But for all it’s beauty, I do not think this silhouette is flattering on me.
Why? Because it’s an oversized top that hits me at the hips. That is not a great look for my particular body type. Although I know it would look great on some of you.
You can read all about how I learned to dress for my body type here.
How to make an oversized top look more tailored
I learned a little trick that you can use on an oversized top to make it more form-fitting and tailored.
Go inside your blouse and make a little tail.
Put a rubber band around the tail.
This is what it looks like on the outside.
The more tailored option
Some people like this and some don’t.
I like it because I think you can still see all the pretty pattern on the blouse.
I admit, I could have centered it better. You just have to work with the rubber band to get it into the right position.
But you get the idea.
This rubber band trick gives me more of a waist and the hem hits in a better place. Â It kind of gives the top a high/low effect.
Fall Accessories
The backpack purse SCREAMS “back to school”! It’s from Amazon and the color is khaki. Â There are 10 different colors.
For shoes, I’m wearing the Bella Vita Kimberley Clog. It comes in 4 colors and widths from Narrow to Extra Wide.
This clog has a strap that goes around the heel, making it much easier to walk in than your standard clogs or mules.
I completed the look with these Kate Spade Mini Small Square Huggies purchased on Amazon.
Colorful accessories are big this fall. And like the neutrals, go with everything!

Cathy, what a beautiful top! I love the color, the gorgeous embroidery, and the boho style! That is a wonderful shirt hack as well for making an oversized loose top more structured! Fun post and lovely look!
Shelbee
Thanks, Shelbee. The colors in that top are my favorite!
I adore the embroidery on this top! And love the color of your backpack. Perfect look to transition into fall with.

Kathrine – would you believe that is a print? I love it so much too. And that backpack is a keeper!
That is a lovely outfit and I simply adore those earrings! You look very “fall.”
Thank you. Those earrings are different for me. So fun!
I absolutely love my new embroidered backpack: I went through some doozers before finding the one! I often forget that trick with the blouse and rubber band and will need to use it soon.

I love the color too! I’ll be using it all fall!
That blouse is amazing and I love the trick. I’ve even done that in the back so it doesn’t interrupt the design.

I never even thought about the rubber band in the back. Great idea!
That is such a pretty top. Love the color, and I like how you approached this topic for those of us who don’t go to school or work anymore. I was thinking of doing the same thing, then just decided to take the month off.
So glad you like the top, Amy. Those colors just make me happy!
I’m in the same “a little past the back-to-school season of life and all that brings” boat as you but I do adore Fall. This is a fabulous look, Cathy, and I appreciate the styling tips and inspirations you’ve shared.
