One of the best parts of being a midlife woman on this side of 50 is the arrival of grandchildren! I spent last week with my younger daughter and her new baby. There’s nothing better than the smell of a newborn baby! This is grandbaby #3 for us. After the birth of each baby in our family, I put together a special gift bag for the new mommies. I call this my New Mommy Care Kit and it is filled with items to aid in their recovery and pamper them during the first few weeks post-partum.
The New Mommy Care Kit – 25 Essential Items
This post contains affiliate links for your convenience. If you make a purchase through one of these links, I will make a small commission at no extra cost to you.
- Big Panties to hold the phone book sized pads you have to wear after having a baby. Since these panties will likely get stained, purchase some inexpensive boy shorts
Or for those who have had a C-section and don’t want anything rubbing against their incision some good, old-fashioned cotton briefs.
- New moms, especially those who are nursing, tend to get dehydrated. To encourage her to drink plenty of water, get this Healthy Human Water Bottle that keeps her water cold up to 24 hours OR hot drinks warm up to 12 hours.
- For dry skin, this Burt’s Bees Tips & Toes Kit with a variety of hand creams, foot creams and lip balm is great!
- Moisturizing Body Wash
Post Partum Care for a Sore Bottom
- Herbal Perineal Spray
- Organic Perineal Balm
- Organic Herbal Sitz Bath
- Items for Padsicles (frozen pads with witch hazel, aloe vera and lavender oil – very soothing). Here’s what you need and how to make them.
Include these in your New Mommy Care Kit for the Nursing Mom
- Organic Nipple Butter
- Bamboobies Washable Nursing Pads
- Lanisoh Disposable Nursing Pads
- Organic Milkmaid Tea to help with milk production
Breastfeeding moms need to consume lots of calories but don’t always have time to stop and eat. Having snacks on hand that support breastfeeding like the Boobie Bar can be very helpful.
-
- Nursing gowns
- Comfortable Nursing Sleep Bras
- Nursing Camis – These are great to wear around the house all day. Then when guests arrive, you just throw a blouse over them.
Extras for Your New Mom Pamper Kit
-
- A month’s subscription to a Grocery Delivery Service such as Peapod, Safeway, Vons or Shipt (My daughters and I live in Texas and we LOVE Shipt!)
- Extra set of sheets and an extra mattress pad. Many people don’t keep extra sheets and mattress pads on hand. They just wash them and re-make the bed. Those first few days post-partum, mom will likely need to change the bed several times and won’t want to have to wait for the bedding to get washed and dried before getting back in bed. Having extras on hand is just the little luxury that makes all the difference when you are sore and sleep-deprived!
Personalized Thank You Cards from Casserolis Note Cards
Whether you go all out and fill up a bag with ALL of these items or choose just a few, the new mommy in your family will love each and every one! Pamper her today!

What a great list. And yes, those are the best nursing bras. And the bath idea, you are the best mom and grandma ever!
How I wish I had some of these goodies after giving birth. Congrats Cathy on the new arrival and for being such a stunning grandmommy.
Such a great selection of goodies, I would have been thrilled with any of these as a new mum. Congratulations on your gorgeous Grandson! x
That’s a great list!!!
What great products! I didn’t know about a lot of these! My daughter had twins two years ago and I know she loved getting the little extras that mom deserves.
Cathy, this is a great post. As I scrolled down I kept saying to myself “I wish I would have had that!” When we were getting ready for the birth of our kids we planned everything out so that the baby would have everything that we needed to care for them. But I didn’t think about myself or Bruce. These would have been terrific to have. I wish I would have planned ahead more, it would have made life so much easier. This is the perfect gift for new parents! Hands down my new go to gift! Thanks.
This is wonderful, Cathy. Such a great list of items. Love the big panties. Wish I had my Mom when I became a mom.
Congratulations Cathy and to your daughter and son-in-law – such an exciting time. I love this idea as sometimes we forget about the Mum and focus on the baby. Mums need some extra attention at this time and you have some cool ideas here. I usually give my family a house cleaner for 6 weeks until everyone settles in.
Great list, Cathy! I am going to share these great suggestions with my friends that want to pamper the new moms in their life.
Lot’s of great things here Cathy! I wish I’d had some of them when I had given birth. Congrats on baby #3!!
What a fabulous kit! You’ve really thought out all of the necessities, Cathy! And who better to do it than a grandmother??! Congrats!!

These are great ideas! So much has come out for new mommies since I had my babies and it’s great to have a list for those of us who haven’t been through this yet but are buying gifts for our friend’s grandbabies.
What a lucky daughter to have such a thoughtful mom. I hope the daughters today appreciate all this love and care that was unheard of years ago. Wonderful ideas in your package.

This is SO perfect – I will definitely be using this idea for my daughter. 🙂 I’ll also have to repost (if you don’t mind)?
Would love a re-post! If you are doing it on a blog, will you link back to my blog? Thanks so much. Glad you found the information helpful, Laura!
Cathy, what great ideas – many of which I would never have thought of! Thank you so much.
This is a great list. I so wish someone had given me these things after I had my kids. These are actually what a new mom can use.
Congrats on being a grandma 3 times round! I am preparing for baby #1 and already got my mega sized panties ahahaha – great list, thanks for sharing! I never thought of a good water bottle.
Angie – so glad the list was helpful. Wishing you well as you become a mom!
A very practical list. Instead of thinking of a gift for the baby, sometimes it will be good to spoil the new mommy!
Making Cards for Love
You are right. Babies are well taken care of, but Mommy has been through an exhausting experience and needs some TLC too!
Excellent list. As a stylist, I’d add Lisette’s elastic waist pants. Our tummies aren’t small enough yet for regular zip-up pants, but maternity pants look terrible. Lisette is cute and comfy!
Thea – what an excellent suggestion! I am going to add those to the post – any maybe pick up a pair for me!
Great ideas. I’ll never need to struggle with what to get a new mom again.
I love this Cathy because New Mums do need to be looked after don’t they? Thank you for sharing with us at #BloggersPitStop Link Party and have a great weekend.
A great post. One of my best friends is having a baby and this gives me more ideas for useful gift items for her and her baby!
Great ideas here! I need to check out some of those Earth Mama products. Some of them look like they would be super helpful. I also think the boobie bars are brilliant. I remember never having time to eat with my first, so I imagine it will be even more difficult this time around. Thanks for the list!
Amy – so glad you found the list helpful!
